Candidate statements:

Kemma Tsujino, Associate Professor, Osaka City University, Graduate School of Literature & Human Sciences, Japan

Since I first attended the annual international seminar of the ISfTE 2012 in Bhutan, I have been fascinated by this globally open academic society with the harmonious atmosphere. Although I wasn’t confident that I could play an important role yet in such great society, I decided to become a candidate for this election of the Members-at-Large. The reason why I finally decided is my desire to contribute back to this society. What I will do for ISfTE in the future is especially to encourage more people from new countries to participate in this society. I believe that more diverse cultural backgrounds will develop research in the ISfTE as the global academic society for educational sciences. For the purpose of this, I would like to focus on the following activities:

  • Listen to the voices from the ISfTE members in order to know create more comfortable environments for every member.
  • Learn the history of the ISfTE in order to clarify the present features and issues for further development.
  • Collaborate with the ISfTE members in order to share our research widely in the world.

Finally, since I’m a non-native speaker of English, there are probably inaccurate grammars in my statement above. Encouraging non-native members, however, has been a unique feature of the ISfTE which I myself have experienced. That is why I would like to build such relationship with the future members from anywhere in the world. This is one of the core spirits of the ISfTE, which I have felt is fundamentally different from other academic societies.

Ugyen Choden, lecturer at Paro College of Education, Royal University of Bhutan, Bhutan.

Ugyen Choden is a lecturer at Paro College of Education, Royal University of Bhutan. A fitness enthusiast and a passionate teacher educator. She specializes in teaching health and physical education, including sports coaching, at the undergraduate levels. She contributed regularly and continues to do so, in reviewing and developing the health and physical education curriculum for the Ministry of Education in Bhutan. As a firm believer in the benefits of regular stakeholders engagements, she collaborates regularly with relevant institutions, agencies, professionals, and schools in her country for the continued relevance and rigor of the physical and sports education program at her college. In recent years, she has expanded her network for mutual collaborations with international partners.

Ugyen is a member of the International Society for Teacher Education (IsfTE) since 2019. She worked as a convenor for the 40th Annual International Seminar of IsfTE: Preparing Students for the 21st Century Challenges Through Improved Learning Outcomes, which was to be held at Paro College of Education, Bhutan, from 7-13 June 2020.  After all the meticulous preparation, the international seminar, however, could not be held due to the sweeping global COVID-19 pandemic.

Her goal as a member of the ISfTE is to contribute to the “improvement of teacher education in all settings by fostering discussion, critical analysis, and dissemination of ideas from research and innovative practices in teacher education” (ISfTE, 2019), and to specifically promote such opportunities for the benefit of teachers and teacher educators in Bhutan.

P. Janardhana Kumar Reddy, Associate Professor, Department of Education, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, TamilNadu, India

My Participation in the ISfTE Conference 2019 in Niagara Falls, Canada.

Participating in the ISfTE Conference 2019 in Niagara Falls, Canada, was a great learning curve for me with its thought-provoking discussions and reflections through mutual, joyful, and intellectual sharing and exchange of thoughts and ideas by way of intercultural interactions among the delegates from all over the world.

Statement-as per the call for nomination

The International Society for Teacher Education (ISfTE), a reputable academic organization founded in 1981, has been organizing and executing the most honorable and profound service of nurturing innovative teacher education practices for the formation of highly skilled and well-qualified teaching professionals for today and tomorrow. For the past four decades, ISfTE has been remarkably performing its dedicated obligation of offering outstanding professional and socio-cultural learning experiences to all of its participants in the form of International Conferences.

As a proud member of ISfTE, I have been constantly gaining enriching learning experiences through its conferences. I aspire to be a part of its upcoming expert committee of Members-at-Large, which will focus on managing ISfTE’s operations, providing advice on resolving its operational issues and various other associated tasks and duties.

As a form of a health-based battle, the COVID-19 pandemic has prompted technical demands in the sphere of education intricately linking science and technology to a sustainable future. A great need has arisen to expand the contributions from the high talent pool and sensitize every student of teacher education in particular, with the importance for quality educational practices. I have my special interests in motivating, mentoring and influencing the talent pools with a zest for collective development and sustainability of future generations. I am a cheerful, go-getter personality with outstanding ideas to work for the betterment of those around me and society as a whole. My greatest strength lies in my ability to be approachable and to positively gel with others through transparency and a high level of trust, allowing for a very safe environment for expression. I also ensure that people around me feel appreciated and inspired with my highly contagious positive attitude and my dedicated service towards education for life and collective sustainability. As a proactive person, I have a constant look out for potential problems and needs, and I focus on possible options for navigating and smooth sailing highly sensitive situations in specific. I strongly believe that well delivered education assures good employment opportunities, better paybacks and earnings, wellbeing, and robust economic standing, and in addition, promotes social cohesion in communities.
